Page tree

The Video Review is the module of LearningSpace that accommodates all the recordings created in the system.

By default, all recordings are listed by date, with the most recent at the top of the Video Review search page. The list can be rearranged by clicking the column headers: according to Date, Room, Learner, Event/Activity, SCE, or Video Information.

User roles with access to the Video Review module

      • Admin
      • Facilitator
      • Faculty - limited access: to video recordings of events the user participated in (that is, is member of the assigned faculty group); has no access to the controls in list view
      • Learner - limited access: to video recordings of events the user participated in (that is, is member of the assigned learner group)
Use the Quick search bar to find specific videos, or click the cogwheel to include annotations and event logs in the filtering process.

You can choose between two layout options in the Video Review module:

  • List view

  • Grid view

You can change the layout to Grid view, by clicking on the respective icon in the upper right corner of the page:

For more details see Room View during Video Review.

Available controls for video recordings

Delete - recordings selected by ticking their checkbox can be deleted

Lock - recordings selected by ticking their checkbox can be prevented from deletion

Print - Video Report including all recording-related data can be saved and printed

Upload data log - data log can be uploaded to a selected recording

Download - camera recordings of a selected room can be downloaded

Video upload - videos recorded without using LearningSpace can be uploaded and associated to an event

NOTE: The Upload data log and the Download buttons are inactive (gray) until one (not more) recording is selected, as data log can be only uploaded to one recording at a time, and video streams belonging to the same recording can be downloaded as one file.

The pre-requisite for the Video upload feature to function is to have at least one running Activity within the CAE LearningSpace system.

Grid Layout Option

The Grid layout displays  recorded and uploaded videos as cards with a default thumbnail and arranges video details such as metadata or custom descriptions underneath:

Choosing the grid or table layout will be saved as each user's preference.

A maximum of 50 cards are shown on one page. Use the arrows in the top left corner to change between pages or to jump to the first or last page.

Apply features with a single click that are now added directly to each recording:

You can still perform each operation with multiple video files by selecting recordings and using the icons in the upper right corner of the page.

Edit Thumbnails

Each video recording comes with a default thumbnail, but it can be customized.

Open the video recording for editing with the pencil icon, then choose from a total of 5 different previews that are taken periodically from the video footage:

Images for thumbnails are extracted from the footage at random time offsets. If there are multiple video files available then thumbnails will be extracted from each of them.

By default, each time you open the editor, new thumbnails will be generated for the video recording.

Titles and Descriptions

Searchable Titles and Descriptions

In editing mode, add a Title to caption your video recording for easier identification. You can also add extra information in the Description field that will appear underneath the thumbnail and caption.

The contents of the Title and Description fields are searchable in the quick search bar:

The Title and Description will also appear in List View

Hover over the information icon next to a video recording's title to display the description added to the recording.

Hovering over the icon displays video information:

Vertical Double Layout

In some cases, two camera views need to be displayed on top of each other (i.e. in a single column) during recording.
In the latest versions of CAE LearningSpace the utilization of the space available in the Single Room View panels can be maximized and the panels on the right side (Annotations tab, Data Entry tab etc.) or additional windows can be displayed in a larger size with the help of the Vertical double layout feature:

Print Video Report

To save data about a video recording, a Video Report can be downloaded in PDF format.

(info) In the latest versions of CAE LearningSpace the video report can be printed (exported) into an Excel (xls) file for more convenient management and an essentially easier utilization of the exported data in applications like Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets.
