Checklists may consist of scored or unscored items/ questions. The point value of any item/ question can be determined - depending on the item type - when adding it to a checklist.

Multiple-choice item types - SET UP ANSWERS

Item types that have the possible responses listed, that is, radio button, drop-down and checkbox item types, when added, appear with the Set up answers button. Clicking the button prompts the Edit Answers pop-up to open where any number of possible answers can be added via the Add new answer button, filling out the Description field with the answer and the Points field with the score value.

IMPORTANT: Any added response can also be marked as:

NS, that is, 'not scored' - which means that if selected, the answer will not be included in score calculation, or

B, that is, 'bonus' - meaning that if selected, the score value will be calculated as additional point, above the achievable limit

The answers are displayed during data entry in the order they are added in the Edit Answers pop-up.

TIPS:

  • Added responses can be moved up or down in the list by the arrows at the beginning of their row.
  • An added response can be deleted by clicking the red trash icon in its row.
  • In case of more than four options, it is recommended that the drop-down item type be used instead of the radio button type to save screen estate.

Text item type - POINTS

In case of text item type, that is, open-ended questions where the answer would be freely worded and typed up by the user completing the data entry, scoring has to be determined via the Points button that prompts the Scoring Method pop-up to open.

By default, the answers are not scored, but when the 'Direct' option is selected from the drop-down, the Maximum score can be determined and Scoring notes can also be added for the users completing the OEQS (Open-Ended Question Scoring).

IMPORTANT: Textual answers cannot be scored by the system, scoring requires participation of designated users (normally faculty) via the Open-Ended Question Scoring process.

Reused items

In case of reused items (or items included in reused sections), scoring method and point values are inherited, that is, every detail of the original item is copied.
