The latest version of the Open-Ended Questions Scoring (OEQS) module is arriving with an improved user interface to make open-ended question grading more effective.

Open-Ended Questions Tab

Layout

Additional details are displayed on the Open-Ended Questions main tab. From now on in Question view, the OEQS grader is informed right away about the current status of each question:

  • how many learners have submitted their response to a question so far
  • how many learners received a score for the question
  • which grading method is applied to the question

Hint: Submit Scores Automatically for Keyword Graded Questions

OEQS graders can submit recommended scores for open-ended question responses with one click if keyword scoring has been set up for a question inside the case. Keyword scoring compares the learners' responses against the provided keywords associated with point values and scores learners automatically.

OEQS graders need to press the Submit All button to auto-grade questions where keyword scoring was applied:

View Options

View by Questions and view by Learners direct the OEQS user to a unified Scoring tab from now on (learn more about the renewed layout in the Scoring Tab part in the following).

Individual questions will not be displayed separately anymore when selecting each of them in Question view. OEQS graders will be shown every question included in a selected checklist, even those that haven't received a response yet.

The OEQS module still makes a distinction between selecting the scoring view by Questions or by Learners in the following ways:

  • if a question is selected for scoring, OEQS graders will arrive at the exact question (highlighted in blue) when landing on the Scoring tab. They will also arrive at the first learner whose checklist is due for grading.

  • if a learner is selected for scoring, OEQS graders will arrive at the exact learner's responses (highlighted in blue) when landing on the Scoring tab.

Scoring Tab

Layout

Significant changes have been made to the Open-Ended Questions Scoring module's Scoring tab in order to view questions and learner responses in a compact way.

  • learners have been removed from the header and placed on the left side of the tab;

    To score a specific learner, the OEQS graders can click and select one on the left, and the Responses panel in the middle adjusts accordingly.

  • learner responses are now embedded inside each question;
  • every question included in the selected checklist is featured on the Scoring page, even if there is no response submitted for a question yet;
  • responses and sections can be hidden and displayed using the drop-down arrows added to each question and section field.

OEQS graders can resize panels according to their preferences by dragging panel borders:

Note

Panel size adjustments made by the OEQS graders are saved as long as the user is working inside the OEQS module in the same session. Once the users exit the module, their changes will be discarded.

Scoring Drafts

From now on, scoring drafts are automatically saved if an OEQS grader switches from one question or learner to another inside the same scoring session.

Drafts are available as long as the OEQS grader does not leave the OEQS module. Once the users switch to their dashboard, then their scoring drafts will be discarded. Scores are saved permanently only by submission.

Once the OEQS grader edits scores in the Scoring panel on the right, a yellow draft status is added to the question, indicating that grading is in progress but not submitted yet:
