Post-simulation evaluation tools are often designed as a Likert Scale type evaluation.

In LearningSpace, the Matrix item type can be used to create this Likert Scale: this is an item type for multiple questions with the same set of answer choices.

  1. Select a Case part, eg. the Case Evaluation tab.
  2. Click the Matrix item in the list of items on the left.
    • A section header and 2-column matrix are added to the work

  3. Type a name for the section as usual.

  4. Click in the white space underneath the last question row to open the item options.
  5. Select the question type option.

Likert Scale evaluations are usually created using the Radio Button (multiple choice) option.

  6. Click the Add New Column button to add additional columns.
  7. Click on the Label header at the top of each column and type the response anchor in the text field.

  8. Click Question phrase on the left to type the criterion or question in the text field.

  9. Click the Points button to open the point text boxes.

  10. Enter a point value for each response.

Although the SET (or Case) Evaluation does not contribute to the learner’s score, the point values are necessary for reporting purposes.
If there are no point values, there will be no data (or confusing data) in the reports.

  11. Click Add New Row button to add another row for a new criterion/question.

Enter point values for first two rows (questions) before clicking Add New Row. LS will automatically enter the point values based on rows 1 and 2.

  12. Continue adding rows/questions as needed.
  13.  To add a new section, click the New Section button.
  14. Select the Matrix item from the list on the left to create a new Likert Scale in a new section.

Section weights are not used with the Case Evaluation, so you can ignore that parameter.

To ensure all questions are answered, click the All button in the upper right corner of the screen to set Answers required for all questions.

Important

Responses in the Matrix item can be set to radio button or checkbox. Scale point values can be set for each response choice.
