If the Keyword scoring method is applied to a question, the system automatically calculates a preliminary score based on the keywords set up as solutions with individual score values at the question.

To set up Keyword scoring for an open-ended question while editing case content:

  1. Click on Points at the footer of the question.
  2. Select Keywords from the drop-down on the left.

  3. Click on the Set Keywords option that appears.

  4. In the new pop-up, click on Add New Keyword.

Use the button to add as many fields as required.

In the new field, start adding your keyword or phrase and define its point value.

  5. Add one keyword or phrase per field.

You can also define phrases to be scored as separate keyword items:

If you want to accept the variants of a keyword as correct solutions, e.g. the different conjugations of keywords, place an asterisk * right before, after, or inside the keyword:

Wildcard Operator in a Keyword Phrases

A part of a keyword phrase can be replaced with a wildcard placeholder to allow learners to write anything in that part of the keyword phrase. Learners will only have to get the other parts of the phrase right in their responses to get scored.

Use the following formula to define the required and wildcard parts of a keyword phrase:

    Important

    • only one keyword phrase can be added per question item
    • the forward slash '/' has to be included at the beginning of the keyword phrase at all time
    • the wildcard placeholder consists of a period followed by an asterisk:  '.*
    • only one wildcard placeholder '.*' can be added inside the keyword phrase

With this formula, several versions of a phrase can be accepted and automatically scored:
