Zoom Update Notes

End-to-End Encryption Preview

Zoom's technical preview introducing end-to-end (E2E) encryption (released on October 25, 2020) currently does not support cloud recording, among other regularly used in-meeting features such as private (1-on-1) chat messaging, meeting reactions, breakout rooms, live streaming, and live transcription (applicable for meetings in English).

If you apply end-to-end encryption for your CAE LearningSpace virtual encounters, SPs and learners can still host and join meetings and use the limited in-room meeting features. Still, the virtual encounters will not be recorded nor saved in the Video Review module as usual.

Default Waiting Room Feature

In their May 2020 update, Zoom has enabled the Waiting Room feature by default. In case you do not want SPs to admit each learner to the current virtual encounter, check out here how to disable waiting rooms in Zoom.

JWT Authorization Solution for Centrally Managed Zoom User Accounts

CAE LearningSpace can be tied into Zoom's API to perform actions on behalf of your owner account, such as creating users and managing meeting recordings.

(lightbulb)Choose this solution if you are just getting started with Zoom, and the user accounts that you are going to associate with virtual rooms will not be used as personal accounts.

When to Choose OAuth Authorization Instead of JWT

If you already have Zoom implemented at your institution and would like to configure existing licensed user accounts as virtual rooms, we recommend our new Zoom OAuth (Open Authentication) solution. Find out more about it here.

The JWT app type will be deprecated June 1, 2023. We recommend that you create an OAuth app to replace the functionality of a JWT app in your account.
