Download the desktop application to the computer or device where you will use the Inventory manager.

You can download Barcode to PC for free to as many devices as you need, but the licensed application is tied to the device where it was activated.

  3. Launch the setup file once it downloaded.

Connect Your Smartphone

  • Download the Barcode to PC application to your smartphone from the Play Store or App Store.
  • Open the application on your smartphone.
  • If your smartphone and server device are using the same network, your smartphone should seamlessly connect to your server device where you are running the Barcode to PC 'server'.

Even if your computer has a wired connection, your smartphone should still automatically connect to the device as long as both are connected (wired or wirelessly) to the same internet access point.

Tap on the signal in the top right corner to display further details:

If the signal in the top right corner is blank, your smartphone has not connected to the desktop application yet:

Do you have trouble connecting your smartphone to the desktop application? Refer to the software's FAQ page.

    • Your computer and your smartphone are not connected to the same network.

Note: My Computer Has a Wired Connection

Even if your server computer uses a wired connection, make sure that the device is plugged into the same access point that your smartphone is connected to.

    • The smartphone application's version does not match the desktop application's version.

According to the software manufacturer, at least the first numbers of the smartphone and desktop versions should be the same, e.g the v3.0.0 smartphone version is compatible with the v3.2.0 desktop version.

      Solution

To avoid version incompatibility issues, leave the Enable automatic updates switch on inside the Info tab.

    • Your server computer is not discoverable.

Refer to the guide featured on Barcode to PC's website to make your computer discoverable on trusted networks.

Note: Server Computer Has Wired Connection

Inside Network & Internet settings, select Ethernet from the side menu.

    • Your firewall is blocking the smartphone application.

      Solution

First, add the Barcode to PC server executable to the firewall exceptions, and allow connection to ports 57891 TCP and 5353 UDP. Then, follow the steps in the firewall settings guide featured on Barcode to PC's website.

Opening Port 5353 UDP Is Not Necessary

According to Barcode to PC's FAQ, allowing connection to port 5353 UDP is not essential. If you do not accept connections on this port, you need to add the server manually to the smartphone.

Find out how to add the server manually here.

By tapping on the signal, you can view connection details and further options:

    QR Code Pairing

In case port 5353 UDP is not opened on your server computer, connect the server manually by scanning the app pairing QR code included in the menu:

    1. Click on the menu icon in the top right corner: .

    3. In the smartphone application, tap the QR Code Pairing button on the Select server page.
    4. Allow the application to access the camera on your smartphone.
    5. Scan the QR code you have just opened in your desktop application.
